Hydrangea, Macrophylla – Cherry/Grape Explosion

Description

Richly-colored blossoms with paler centers positively pop against the dark green foliage, a stunning Lacecap Hydrangea macrophylla. Blooms smother a hardy shrub that is superbly sized for the edge of the border. Explosion is pH-sensitive, and the blooms will change based on soil pH. Northern gardeners will be pleased with its ability to bloom well on old and new wood.

For gardeners in Zones 4 and 5, we advise planting H. macrophyllas in a sheltered location and giving them a winter mulch. This will provide protection from winds and cold temperatures that can damage flower buds.

For this Hydrangea, you can change the color of your blooms by using one of our soil additives, flowers will generally be more blue when grown in acid soils, and pink when grown in alkaline soils.
