Gaillardia – Spintop Copper Sun

Description

Kickoff your late spring garden with countless copper-orange flowers. Each fluted petal is tipped in glowing yellow. Top-notch flowering continuing into fall, the autumnal-hued blossoms highlight silvery-green compact foliage. Deer resistant and carefree. Gaillardia Copper Sun, from the SpinTop Series, features an excellent branching habit with multiple buds on every stem. Compact, uniform and extremely early flowering, this series demonstrates excellent heat tolerance in all regions. Large flowerheads are pollinator favorites. Very drought resistant. Pairs nicely with the soft blues of perennial Geraniums. Completely carefree.

These perennials require little care once established. Gaillardia is considered a “short-lived” perennial, so it is recommended to leave some seed heads at the end of the season to encourage re-seeding. They are heat tolerant and actually prefer to be grown in poorer soils. They get their name from the manner in which they used to blanket North American prairies with their blooms. They can still be found in fields and along roadsides in the prairie region and into the Rockies.
