Description
A large, distinctive tree with fine textured foliage similar to Metasequoia. This deciduous conifer has sage green needles that develop a yellow-brown fall color and then fall from the branches in the winter. Adaptable to wet or dry soils, however it does not tolerate alkalinity. Native to the Atlantic and gulf costal plains, lower Mississippi Valley, and the bottom lands of large rivers. Use it in areas with wet heavy soils or where moisture is abundant and the landscape can tolerate the scale of such a large tree at maturity.
