Locust – Purple Robe

Description

The Purple Robe Locust (Robinia pseudoacacia ‘Purple Robe’) is a fast-growing, deciduous tree known for its striking, fragrant, wisteria-like flowers. In late spring to early summer, it produces cascading clusters of deep purple-pink blossoms that attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Its feathery, dark green foliage emerges with a bronzy-purple tint and turns golden yellow in fall. This hardy, drought-tolerant tree thrives in a variety of soils and reaches 30–50 feet in height, making it an excellent choice for shade, ornamental appeal, and erosion control. Though beautiful, it can produce suckers, requiring some maintenance to prevent spreading.
